Kitchen of the Week: An Ikea Kitchen, Elevated and Upgraded
We enjoy a superior Ikea-hack kitchen. This pleasant one particular arrives to us courtesy of London-centered architects James Alder and Thom Brisco (formerly of Alder Brisco, now practicing as James Alder Architect and Brisco Loran). Tasked with building an extension to a 1930s townhouse in West London for a couple with young small children, they came up with intelligent, cost-effective solutions—including picking Ikea base cabinets and challenging-sporting, no-fuss components.
“Prior to the remodel, the small galley kitchen area was isolated from the dwelling and dining spaces,” points out Thom. “The consumers hoped to see it enlarged and repositioned to grow to be a focal center of the house, where by the household might talk about their day with each other, put together food, and neglect perform and research.”
With substantially of the finances allocated for the making of the eating room addition, James and Thom relied heavily on Ikea for the kitchen area update, a technique that they employed in the past to wonderful achievements (see Kitchen of the 7 days: A Build-Prepare dinner-Try to eat Area Designed on a Restricted Price range). Birch plywood cupboard doors, topped with environmentally friendly Formica, from kitchen area fabricator Farmwood front the Ikea cabinets for a personalized glimpse.
