Remaining buildings at Northville psych hospital property to be demolished

Northville Township — The township has awarded the deal to demolish the stays of a former state psychiatric medical center and operate is scheduled to get started in the upcoming several months, officials mentioned.

Township trustees awarded an $8.95 million contract to Asbestos Abatement Incorporated of Lansing, they reported in a statement Tuesday. The agreement was awarded May possibly 12.

The former state psychiatric hospital in Northville Township was torn down in 2018. The site will now be cleared and redeveloped as an active recreation area. Township trustees approved a $12 million bond sale to fund the removal or relocation of the remaining 11 buildings on the 332-acre site, now called Legacy Park.

The shift clears the way for Legacy Park, a so-called “active recreation internet site” featuring hiking and biking trails to exchange the former medical center.

“We begun the job to change the previous psychiatric medical center house numerous decades back, and with the demolition of the properties starting this summertime, the aspiration of Legacy Park definitely comes into target,” township Supervisor Mark Abbo said in the assertion. “Our residents have been patient, but the time for motion is now.”
